Drumfire Burns

These began as trees.

Harvested, debarked, kiln-dried, planed, and edged — then they came to the maker. Days of work followed. The boards were sawn, their edges carved smooth by hand, sanded until they held nothing sharp. One was engraved with two diagonal lines — fuel. One with two horizontal lines — oxygen. Fire requires both. Neither is sufficient alone.

They were placed on the mantle with ritual objects. Candle work followed. They were held in that space for a prolonged period before they were ready to leave it.

When they arrive they are not finished objects. They are objects with a purpose still ahead of them.

You use them. In ritual, in ceremony, in the specific ways the accompanying guide describes. You clap them together — there is a sound they make, haunting and particular, that you will recognize immediately as belonging to serious work. You keep them on your altar or your mantle until the time arrives.

Then you burn them.

Not as disposal. As completion. The guide that arrives with the Burns includes what to do, how to do it, and what to say at the burning. The fire that receives them is the last ceremony they hold.

After that they are smoke and ground.

That is the whole arc of the object. From tree to maker to mantle to fire to earth.
